  • Mexico Welcomes Large Numbers of Anglo Americans
  • Bring your families to Texas.
  • 1835 New Dictator of Mexico
  • Now... How will we keep Texas away from the United States?
  • Battle of Gonzales
  • Aaahhhh!
  • Come and take it.
  • Mexico wanted to invite a ton of colonists to help protect them from the United States. Instead, the colonists broke all of the rules, and eventually gave Texas to the U.S.
  • Battle of the Alamo
  • No prisoners!
  • General Santa Anna became the dictator. He wanted to keep Texas under Mexican control when the war started, so he made a small force of people to capture the Alamo, and later to fight in the Battle of San Jacinto.
  • Battle of San Jacinto
  • 20 minutes after the battle starts.
  • The Mexican soldiers were sent to retrieve a cannon, but the 18 men in the town decided to protect it. They wanted to Mexicans to TRY and take it. But, when the Texans fired the spiked cannon, and the Mexicans fled.
  • Texas Statehood
  • Yay, we're finally a state!
  • In this battle, the Texans defended in the Alamo, an old mission building. The Texan army was destroyed, with all of the men killed, although they had very few people compared to the vast Mexican army.
  • This battle lasted less than 20 minutes. It was important because the Texans killed 650 and captured 750, while only losing 9. This war made Texas a separate country.
  • Texas took ten years to finally become a state, because Texas was trying to enter as a slave state, and Congress didn't want the amount of slave and free states to be unequal.
