My love, I will fight for you until the end of time.
Progress Report #3 Noah Plenter
Analysis of the Theme
In this story, the main character, Wade Watts, is on a fantastic journey. He is one of millions yearning to find the lost egg in a fantasy world, "The Oasis". This is not an ordinary challenge, because he is presented with many obstacles in his way, such as other people chasing him, rigorous challenges, and in the end, human greed.
Analysis of the Theme.
The theme is portrayed over the course of the book. In the beginning Wade finds himself pursuing his love interest, Samantha Cook. Samantha is hidden and ambiguous through out the adventure and her character traits get slowly revealed. Wade only won her over after many daring actions. His perseverance payed off after all, "I knew that she would play a role acquiring the egg, but how long will it take." (3,35)
Resolution of Theme
As part of the first major obstacle, Wade is tasked with winning a challenging race. He tries to succeed but fails. He also watched the people fail around, which gives him the idea to think differently and find a shortcut to win. He could only win after many tries, and a lot of patience, "I don't know if I can save the world. Maybe not. But I'm gonna give it a shot." (9.141).
Wade, in his journey, also has to find keys. These keys unlock the world if they can all be found. While competing for the copper key in a large scale D&D style arena, Wade loses many times, but he does eventually win the copper key and a lot of money to boot. Perseverance does pay off, "I was so close that I could almost see the key before my eyes." (10,163)
Finally, in a big spectacular show, Wade will find the egg and gain control of this virtual world, or at least that is my prediction. I predict that he will beat any more challenges to come and obtain the last key to find the egg. This egg represents the fortune of hard work and the riches that perseverance will give.
