Richard was the youngest surviving son of Richard Plantagenet , Duke of York and Cecily Neville, Duchess of York.
Richard had 7 brothers and 3 sisters, with his eldest brother Edward IV, being first in line to the throne
He most likely grew up in Fotheringhay Castle in Northamptonshire. His family went to battle against Lancastrians for control of the country.
During his adolescence, Richard developed idiopathic scoliosis, which made his spine curved.
In 1461, when he was almost 10, his nineteen year-old brother Edward took the throne after his father died in battle.
