Ouch! My stomach hurts really bad. I think I should get it checked out.
Hi Jacob! I'm Dr. Hudson and your symptoms show that you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS for short. IBS is a common disorder that infects the large intestine.
If you've noticed your poop looks weird it's because IBS causes it to be in the shape of pebbly nuggets since it produces a hard stool. IBS is located in the large intestine and is made of waste. The normal function is being absorbed and getting rid of all the waste and bacteria from the food. The abnormal function is the communication between the nervous system and the muscles of the bowel.
Abnormalities in the nerves in your digestive system experience greater discomfort when your abdomen stretches from gas or stool.Causing major discomfort.
What causes this disease?
The cause is unknown but we know that when muscle contractions get stronger or last longer than normal they can cause gas, bloating, and diarrhea. Which cause a weak intestinal system and slows down food causing hard and dry stool.
Some prevention's are counseling, Biofeedback, Progressive relaxation exercise, and mindfulness
Is there a way to prevent IBS?
IBS usually occurs in younger people (under 50), females, people with a family history of IBS, or people with a mental health problem
Some symptoms are abdominal pain: cramping/bloating by bowel movements, Excess gas, diarrhea or constipation, and mucus in the stool.
What are some risk factors/ signs and symptoms of IBS?
