Mija are you excited, for your first day of school?
I woke up to see my mom hovering over me while holding my brand new school uniform, a purple polo shirt with a bear embedded on the left side and some thin khaki slacks. My mom helped me up and led me to the bathroom so I could take a shower, she helped me get ready and did my hair
“Mija are you excited, for your first day of school? When we get there we need to register you because you are a new student, ok?”, my mother said with such excitement in her voice, she seemed happier than me about attending school. At the time I was barely entering second grade, so I didn’t even know what registration was.
The next thing you know, we were out the door and that’s when it finallyhit me, “I’m actually going to a real elementary school and I’m probably goingto struggle making friends”. I started getting butterflies in my stomach and Ifelt as if I didn’t even want to go anymore.
Have fun mija, if anything happens let your teacher know and I’ll come get you right away, ok?
We finally arrive at the school and my stomach drops, there were so many kids. I remember seeing the crowded school and thinking how huge it was compared to my small old 5 classroom private school.
Once we finally entered the building, I felt very confused because instead of going into a classroom they led me to the office, I was being registered. I remember hearing the chatter of the office ladies, principle, and my mom talking about transcripts and utility bills, as I was waiting patiently to be put into a class
Finally, after what felt like waiting for more than my entire lifetime, a sweet old lady that smelled of berries and vanilla approached me. As the kind lady took my hand, I turned around to see my mother standing right in front of me. She opened her arms wide and pulled me into a comforting hug,
