  • The Birth of Sitting Bull
  • "Slow" and Tatanka Iyotake
  • First encounter
  • Sitting Bull was born born in 1831 near Grand River in South Dakota
  • A Rising Leader
  • His family called him Jumping Badger but since he didn't prove he had the fighting skills of his father, he got called slow. At the ageof 10 he killed his first bull and later on at the age of 14 he showed great bravery during his first war with another tribe during a raid. this gained him the name of Tatanka Iyotake which means sitting Bull.
  • Betrayed Peace and losing the war
  • ¡Ahh, we lost the war! 
  • His first encounter at war with white men wasin June of 1865 at the age of 25 and for the following years his people were atconstant war with the Americans.
  • The Death of Sitting Bull
  • In 1866 he was made leader of the northernhunting Sioux and in 1868 he became chief of the whole Lakota Sioux nation. Hewas also the leader of the Strong Heart Society and a member of the SilentEaters. 
  • In 1868, theSioux accepted a treaty of peace with the US, but it didn´t last long because in the mid-1870s goldwas discovered in the Black hills and the white invaded the land that had been given to the Indians. On June 25 Colonel George Armstrong Custer led an army into the valley but he and all his men were killed in the Battle of the Little Bighorn. After four years of fighting he had to surrender due to famine. 
  • In 1885 he joined Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. On  December 15 of 1890 Sitting Bull was sent to arrest due to the great influence he had on the indians and while his followers attempted to save him, he was shot and died.
