  • Oh no!
  • War is rough ~Tom
  • People were celebrating North's first victory in Fort Henry thanks to the help of General Grant. The victory made people feel confident that the war will end soon.
  • You can go to Shads house.
  • Thanks!
  • Two weeks later another victory occurred at Fort Donelson which raised peoples hopes.
  • I don't think war will end soon.
  • Maybe war might end soon.
  • A note from Tom, Jethro's older brother, arrived and Jethro read the note out loud to his family about Tom's hardships at war. The terrible conditions in which Tom was in made his mother worried.
  • Zzzzzz
  • Later that day, Jethro's mother allows him to spend the night at Shads ,the local schoolteacher's, house.
  • Once Jethro arrives they discuss about current world problems over dinner, such as the war. After, they talk about how Jenny is not allowed to marry Shad because her father prohibits it. Later that night Shad plays the guitar as Jethro sings the song, "Seven Starts are in the Sky".
  • Jethro laid on the couch and thought about what he learned that day until he fell asleep.
