- Anne laying in bed with a flu in February morning.
- Anne, a fountain pen just arrived from your grandmother with a red leather case.
- Anne showed the fountain pen to her friends.
- Anne came out from her room about to sit down when she was roughly pushed to one side to make room for Margot and Father who wanted to practice their Latin.
- It must have melted into stone.
- Anne swept the floor, dumped the dirt into a newspaper along with the rotten beans ,and tossed it into the stove.A giant flame shot up, Anne thought it was wonderful that the stove had made a miraculous recovery.
- Anne sat down at the table to pick up where she'd left off but the fountain pen was missing. Margot looked, Mother looked, Father looked, Dussel looked. but it had vanished. They all assumed that the pen had been burned.
- No it couldn't have!
- Maybe it fell in to the stove with the beans!
- Father went to empty the stove and discovered the clip used to fasten it to a pocket, among the ashes. Not a trace of the gold nib was left.
