"He left Thebes to consult the oracle, so he announced" (Pg. 10). The reason for Laius' departure was his quest to go consult the oracle.
"Without telling my parents, I set off on a journey to the oracle of Apollo, at Delphi" (Pg. 45). The explanation for Oedipus' retreat was his mission to visit the oracle of Apollo to ask about his parents.
I cant stay, I must know if they are my real parents. If they aren't, who is?
"On my way I came to the place in which you say this king, Laius, met his death. I will tell you the truth, all of it. As i journeyed on I came near to this triple crossroad and there I was met by a herald and man riding on a horse-drawn wagon, just as you described it" (Pg. 45). Oedipus and Laius had their first and final encounter on a triple crossroad.
No, i cant let that prophecy come true, im not going to be the killer of my father that gave me life... HEY STOP PUSHING ME
The original "I killed the whole lot of them" (Pg. 46). Was changed when Laius' goad actually ends Oedipus' journey instead of Laius and his group being murdered by Oedipus
Nice shot, that two pronged goad got him. He wont be paying back any interest any time soon.
After Laius and his group consult the oracle they return back to Thebes. Only to discover the Sphinx still there and troubling the city.
Is that a Sphinx chanting riddles?!
Apollo on Mount Olympus exclaims his frustration when he views how his prophecy he told didn't come true.
