Storyboard Text

  • This will be the perfect place to pray and fast. Oh how I hope my vision will come to me.
  • This is Lenah Kochi, she has been preparing to go on her vision quest for a long time. Now that she is 17, she is finally able to embark on this intense spiritual mission to find her spirit animal and be accepted as an adult in her community. First, she must speak to the Shaman who will guide her through this.
  • The Shaman purified Lenah in a sweat lodge and now Lenah must go to a place that is sacred to her as instructed by the Shaman. This is where she will spend the next few days fasting, praying and giving thanks to the Creator without sleeping. Lenah has picked a peaceful forest by a calm stream to be this place.
  • Family I saw my spirit guide! That is amazing Lenah! We are so happy for you.
  • The next step of Lehan's vision quest is to pray intensely, without food, water, or sleep, and give thanks to the Creator. The length of this period differs between every person depending on when or if the spirit chooses to present themselves. Some people can spend up to five days in this step and yet still some leave unsuccessful.
  • Lenah has been praying intensely for 3 days now and the time has finally come. She has been waiting her whole life for this moment; for the spirits to recognize that she has grown into a beautiful women who will be able to help her village now with the knowledge and wisdom that she gains from this experience. Her spirit animal appeared to her that night and it is a kangaroo. Now Lenah can return home to her family who have been waiting for her.
  • Lenah has just returned home and her family is so happy to see her. Lenah has not said anything about what her vision looked like yet as it is the elder's job to interpret the vision. Once she speaks with the elder then she will be able to let her family know all about her vision quest and be able to share her newfound knowledge and wisdom with them.
  • Lenah goes to see the elder. She describes to the elder what she saw and the elder interprets this vision for her. Initially, Lenah thought that the kangaroo would represent power and authority, but the elder told her that it actually represents knowledge and wisdom and is a highly respected animal in their village. Lenah is so thankful for having been given an animal as great as the kangaroo to be her spirit guide.
