This is Antony Van, Leeuwenhoek. He was born in Delft on 24 October 1632. He was very famous for his invention called the Microscope. It was used for looking at things very closely, like what it is used for today.
As he grew up he visited London. When he was there he heard about something called the Micrographia which included pictures of textiles that would have been intrest to him. In 1673 he reported his first observations. From there he became s member of the Royal Societe
He observed water closely and was surprised to see tiny organisms - the first bacteria observed by man. His letter announcing this discovery caused widespread doubt at the Royal Society but Robert Hooke later repeated the experiment and was able to confirm his discoveries. . He died August 30, 1723
