  • My goal is to start each day on a positive note. Therefore, I think it's important to greet each student with a warm welcome!
  • "Good morning Prince....good morning Naveah...good morning Yousef...."
  • Daily Schedule
  • "What does diversity mean? Why is it important?"
  • Morning meetings are a great way to build a sense of community. As a group, we sit on the carpet and discuss whatever is on our minds. Each student will have the opportunity to share thoughts, feelings, questions, etc during the morning meeting. This will last for maybe 15 minutes.
  • "Acceptance"
  • "Awesome"
  • 'Different"
  • How we transition to each activity will be crucial in mainting class order. Therefore, I will implement a classroom alarm clock for each transition.
  • "Alright scholars, you should be settled at your desks with your journal books ready to go by the time the song ends".
  • Journal Topic What is your favorite food? Why is it your favorite?
  • When conflicts like this occurs, it isn't always necessary to enforce zero-tolerance policies. The objective is to repair relationships and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • "Ok let's line up scholars".
  • Jayden: "She wouldn't share her snack".
  • Naveah: "Mrs. R. Jayden pushed me".
  • Instead of sending Jayden to the office, "restore" the situation. Try to access Jayden's rationale for his behavior? Does he take responsibility for his actions? Does he show remorse?
  • 'What have you learned from this Jayden?"
  • When conflicts arise, it is imperative to address them immediately. The smallest outburst or distraction can interfere with the flow of the class.
  • "That's okay Jayden".
  • "I'm sorry that I pushed you Naveah".
  • "That I should always keep my hands to myself".
