  • At the age of 15 Kazi Shamsuzzaman lived in Howrah with his father was a postal worker
  • A riot called the Direct Action Day broke out in the year 1947 in Howrah. 8 people died.
  • Homes were burned & people lost all their belongings.
  • Kazi & his father escaped from Howrah & the chaos. They hid in a graveyard & in a tree to avoid being spotted.
  • When Kazi & his father first arrived to their new home (Dhaka) they had no money & nowhere to go. Many times they were discriminated against.
  • Kazi completed his education in Dhaka & once he was finished & had gotten a job, he went back home (Howrah) to see what it was like. When he arrived he saw that his house had been taken over by others.
