  • Is this a dagger I see before me, the handle towards my hand? Come, let me clutch thee.
  • Sleep no more! Macbeth does murders sleep Glamis hath murdered sleep, and therefore cawdor shall sleep no more. Macbeth shall sleep no more.
  • Murderer! God bless us.
  • Thou wish to say amen but cannot.
  • At the end of scene 2 Macbeth hallucinates with a knife, this is a sign of his internal battle. We can see how much of an unstable character he really is. This is foreshadowing of how his fatal flaw (guilt) will continue to haunt him.
  • What hands are here? Ha, they pluck out mine eye will all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood.
  • After Macbeth kills King Duncan he hears a voice, which represents how the murder is really affecting him. He just committed an act that is irrevocable. His conscience will continue to have a big impact on the play.
  • My hands are of your color, but I shame a heart so white.
  • Macbeth overhears the servants praying but cannot answer "Amen" because of the evil act he has just committed. This scene is very important because it shows us how Macbeth's guilt is stronger than his will. He is completely paranoid about his acts.
  • To know my deed' twere best to not know myself. 
  • Macbeth develops a big obsession with the blood on his hands. It is a symbol of the murder that he has just done. We can see how much they are affecting him by becoming obsessed with cleaning them. It is a symbol of his guilt.
  • Lady Macbeth seeing her husband a wreck wants to make him realize that he is being weak. She is trying to make him forget about it since dwelling on it will only make him crazy. She also wants him to see how it does not have a big impact on her for now so he can relax. She is trying to be the strongest out of the both of them. 
  • Macbeth realizes that he cant continue to dwell on it. He must act as if nothing happen in order to continue to be "innocent". If not then the kingdom would find out and the consequence would be bigger. They must be at their best behavior and know how to hide their secret.
