Storyboard Text

  • The Scramble for Africa
  • We need more resources for our factories. We have to start using resources from other parts of the world. The resources we have will not last us forever.
  • Africa is where we need to go. There are resources like gold, iron, and diamond that will definitely help the European countries.
  • It will take a lot of work to get the resources we need.
  • It will be easier all together to use the Africans to do all the work for us. That way we won't have to bother getting people to go work in Africa.

  • Berlin Conference
  • We are going to split give each country apart of Africa so when we colonize Africa there will be no disputes or arguments.
  • Europe needed to produce goods in factories and to do that they needed natural resources. Africa had a lot of natural resources like gold, diamond, and oil that Europe wanted to use.
  • STOP! You are taking all our natural resources, what do you think we are going to be left with when you are done?!!!!!?
  • You are not in charge of this area anymore, and we are just trying to help and provide for our country!
  • Europe decided it would make more sense to use the Africans as a labor source. This way Europe would not need to extract the natural resources themselves.
  • We need the resources more than your tribe does!!
  • My tribe is suffering more than yours. WE NEED THE RESOURCES!
  • This is known as the Berlin Conference where Europe gave a part of Africa to each country so no one would fight about it. The period of time when this took place is known as the New Imperialism period. Imperialism is when a country makes itself more powerful by taking control of other colonies and the people that live there.
  • One of the effects of The Scramble for Africa was that Africa was left with barely any resources. This resulted in many problems like wars fought over natural resources and African tribes not having the resources needed for everyone.
  • Another one of the effects of The scramble for Africa was the many civil wars that took place. The Africans all needed the few natural resources left so the tribes in Africa fought for them.
