  • Hi! I'm Iwa, I really hope I can understand what Kate says to ace our quiz tomorrow!
  • Hey! I'm Kate, and I'm here to give Iwa a quick guide on how the 3 main types of rocks form.
  • First are the igneous rocks. In essence, igneous rocks are formed through the cooling and solidification of magma (or lava).
  • Intrusive igneous rock is formed when magma cools and solidifies within small pockets contained within the planet’s crust, while extrusive rocks are so named because they are the result of magma pouring onto the surface of the planet and cooling.
  • So... intrusive is formed inside while extrusive is formed outside?
  • Yep! Let's move on to sedimentary rocks!
  • Sedimentary rocks are formed whenever other rocks get broken down, turn into smaller particles and then accumulate. Easy, right?
  • Piece of cake!
  • Lastly, metamorphic rocks are formed from other rocks that are changed because of heat or pressure.
  • That was super easy! Thanks, Kate!
