  • It was a hard winter on the animals, but they managed through it, getting as much work done on the mill as possible. Squealer always made speeches for positivity involving their labour and to spark motivation.
  • Benjamin

  • Food fell short. The corn ration was reduced and the potatoes became soft and discolored. Napoleon couldn't risk the fact of their starvation to be revealed to the public, so he concealed it by covering bins with sand and topping them off with food.
  • Pigs were seized by 4 dogs. Boxer almost hurt a dog. Three hens, a goose, and three sheep confesed to things they did, and were also slaughtered. It was a bloody scene, never to be expected.
  • Here, the animals huddle around Clover, silent. The animals hadn't expected something like this to happen, especially on their own farm. As they sing "The beasts of England", Snowball announces that it is not needed anymore. Minimus composes another song that was to be sung every Sunday morning.
  • Napoleon agrees with Mr. Whymper to trade 400 eggs a week for enough grain to keep the farm going.

  • This pig is crazy
  • The hens didn't agree with Napoleon, trying to disobey, they fail. Nine hens are punished by death by the dogs...

  • "Snowball! He has been here! I can smell him distinctly!"
  • Napoleon announces that Snowball has been here. The dogs frighten the animals, and they are all confused. Squealer uses his persuading words and tries to make the animals believe that it's true.
