"Everybody, we will be writing letters to our new pen pal. A pen pal is a person you will be writing to in a different country." Ms.Miller announced. The class was very excited for this project and everybody was choosing their countries.
Caitlin has heard and been to most of the places on the board, but she has not heard of ZImbabwe. Ms.Miller told her that Zimbabwe was in Africa. Caitlin thought that was cool so she picked to write to Zimbabwe. Caitlin was very excited to start this project.
Caitlin and Martin both send each other one dollar in their currency. One USD is worth roughly 20 Zimbabwean Dollars. After 2 weeks of Martin having the dollar, and his family only eating their sadza, Martin uses the US dollar to buy food for his family. Caitlin and Martin were both facinated with their new dollars!
Martin lives in a one-bed room house which his family shares with another family. All of their belongings are kept below the cot throughout the day. For a while, Caitlin couldn't quite comprehend how bad it was until she received a photo, of his house, with a description.
