King Aegeus went to an oracle and found out his grandson would kill him one day. King Aegeus trapped his daughter, Danae in an underground cellar so she would never fall in love. She was visited by Zeus, and had a child: Perseus.

Perseus and his mother, Daenae were locked up in a chest and put in the sea, then fisherman found the two washed upon an island from the young Perseus crying. Many years later, Danae was engaged to Polydectes. Polydectus asked if Perseus had a wedding present for him.
Crossing The Threshhold
I will take on the challenge!
Perseus does not believe he can accomplish this perilous task alone. It would be a dangerous journey. Although, Perseus did not have another present for him.
Test Allies and Enemies
Athena and Hermes gave Perseus a sword, shield, a magic wallet, an invisibility cap and flying shoes to help him slay Medusa. Athena offered wise advice, while Hermes guided Perseus to the land of the gorgons. Maybe now Perseus would have a chance with some help.
With the help of Athena and Hermes, Perseus decided to take on the challenge of obtaining Medusa's head for Polycdetes. He knew Polycdetes would be pleased with him if he accomplished this task.
On the way, Perseus encountered the Gray Women who he tricked into telling him where to Nymphs of the North. The Nymphs of the North granted him more gifts for his journey. They also shared with him Medusa's location.
