Teddy, being careless, rides his scooter in the backyard and pays no heed to the bushes he stops to lay by. Out of the bushes comes a snake that spits into his eye leaving him less than an hour left of vision. Gideon comes to his rescue with a special root that has "healing properties".
After hearing of his heroic actions a scientist from the city comes to Gideon in search of this "special root". Gideon, however, does not plan on giving up the root. The Farquars believe he is being very disrespectful and unreasonable.
After hours of useless talking Gideon decides to show them the root. After about 5 hours of walking Gideon picks up the root of a common plant and hands it to the doctor. The doctor leaves quite pleased with himself. The farquars and Gideon are very furious with each other, but the Farquars learn an important lesson from Gideon
