Anh Do and his family had to leave because of the war
The people on the boat spotted a ship this could be their one way out they were wrong the pirates took everything they owned including the engine they were left there to drift
Another ship came, this time no one was hopeful, more pirates threatened to chuck anh do's little brother over board but then chucked him at his mothers feet
When Anh and his family arrived in Sydney nuns greeted them and gave them new clothes, Anh's brother wore girls clothes and their mum did not want to be rude to ask for boys clothes.
It was the end of year prize giving award and Anh begged his parents to come and have a break from their job to watch and they came. When the principal was handing out awards for next years class captain Anh was called he was so happy and his parents were cheering so loud for him!
Still to this day Anh Do is a Vietnamese-born Australian author, actor, stand up comedian and a painter. He has won many awards such as the award he was given the top prize award for his novel ' Happiest refuge' which was about his early life.
