Fredrick douglass was born into slavery in 1818 somewhere in talabolt country maryland
He grew up picking cotton with many other slaves including his mother
at the age of eighteen he was sent to baltimore to work as a unpaid caulker at the thriving sea port
Later he joined a black church that regularly attended abolitionist meetings
he married anna douglass a freed black women and had five children that included anna who died at the age of ten
he wrote narratives such as narrative of the life of Fredrick douglass,an american slave in 1845
