Farmers Suffered from depression of debts, losing their jobs that made it hard for them after the revolutionary war
The state of Massachusetts raised their taxes. Farmers that couldn't pay their taxes they were threatened to take their farm or be thrown in jail.
In 1776, Daniel Shay organized a rebellion. 1000 farmers joined part in this rebellion and gathered near the courthouse and prevented the state from taking farms from farmers who couldn't pay their taxes
The government of Massachusetts sent the military to drive the farmers away and to send their farms back.
Americans saw shays rebellion as a sign the articles of federation didn't work effectively for United States of America.
