  • Shays RebellionBy: Odai Salem Period 1
  • Farmers Suffered from depression of debts, losing their jobs that made it hard for them after the revolutionary war
  • The state of Massachusetts raised their taxes. Farmers that couldn't pay their taxes they were threatened to take their farm or be thrown in jail.
  • In 1776, Daniel Shay organized a rebellion. 1000 farmers joined part in this rebellion and gathered near the courthouse and prevented the state from taking farms from farmers who couldn't pay their taxes
  • The government of Massachusetts sent the military to drive the farmers away and to send their farms back.
  • Americans saw shays rebellion as a sign the articles of federation didn't work effectively for United States of America.
