All of these animals are invertebrates. An invertebrate is an animal that does not have a backbone.
Lobsters are crustaceans. They have a hard outer shell called an exoskeleton. Lobsters can sometimes shed their shells, or molt.
A squid is an invertebrate grouped in the cephalopods. Squids have long tentacles that allowed them to obtain resources. They have an endoskeleton.
Butterflies are part of the arthropod group. They have segmented bodies, and jointed legs. They also have an exoskeleton. They bright color of their wings can sometimes scare away predators.
A snail is an invertebrate in the mollusk category. It has a thick-muscular foot to help it move around. They also have soft bodies protected by one, or maybe two shells.
Invertebrates come in all different types, as you could probably tell. Invertebrates make up 97% of earths animals!!
