  • Isn't anybody here?
  • The teacher spanked a boy, though. For being fresh
  • It was charles
  • What did he do? Who was it?
  • Look up, look down, look at my thumb. Gee you're dumb.
  • What?
  • Laurie gets home from school and no one is there to greet him. Reveals the relationship with Laurie and his parents as not as good. Since when you come home you expect your parents to ask about your day. The conflict is introduced as the relationship with Laurie and his parents
  • Charles did...  Charles got... Charles said...
  • The first mention of Charles, a trouble maker. Shows that the parents are more interested in a trouble maker in Laurie's kindergarten class than in Laurie.
  • Ask her  what happened to charles
  • The PTA meeting's next week again, I'm going to find Charles's mother there.
  • I suppose this time it's Charles's influence
  • Laurie tricks his dad into doing one of those stereotypical kindergarten "games" Reveals the relationship between Laurie and his dad, shows that he is acting out
  • Laurie usually adjusts very quickly
  • PTA meeting 
  • Charles? We don't have any Charles in this kindergarten
  • Stories of Charles being a bad kid are now common in the household. Laurie coming home everyday and telling his parents about what Charles did. Reveals that the parents are interested in Charles's kindergarten experience and not necessarily in Laurie's. 
  • The mom and dad are discussing the PTA meeting that the mom is going to go to. The mother is going to find Charles's mom and talk to her. Shows that the parents are not interested in Laurie's behavior but Charles's.
  • Laurie's mom finds the kindergarten Teacher and asks about Charles. Reveals that the kid Laurie spoke of doesn't exist, and was in fact Laurie.
