Storyboard Text

  • Location: Harvard Middle School Math Class
  • Good morning class! Today we will be learning about functions.  A function is a relation that pairs one input, or an x value, with exactly one output, or a y value.
  • Write this down in your notebooks. The domain of a function is a complete set of x values. The range of a function is a complete set of y values.
  • These are all functions:             x     y                     3  -   5 2   -  4 1  -   6 1  -   4 2   -  5 3  -   6 2   -  7 3   -  10 4   -  11 4   -  88 3  -   9
  • These are not functions: x     y 1   2     3 1   4 2   5     8 17   4  9    13       5       16
  • Now, we will be evaluating functions. you will be given an equation, for example, f(x)= 6x + 10 f=5 So, 6(5)+ 10= 30+10=40 f(x) = 40 Let´s try another One! f(x)= 13x-2 f=3 SO, 13(3)-20 39-2 = 37 f(x)=37
  • Function notation is the way a function is written . For example, the most common one is f(x), which is read as f of x.  *Ring Ring* That´s the bell, class is dismissed.
