Why did he challenge the church:
Martin Luther was a German theologian and religious reformer who was the catalyst of the 16th-century Protestant Reformation. Martin Luther was also a German monk who forever changed Christianity when he nailed his '95 Theses' to a church door in 1517, sparking the Protestant Reformation.
When:
Luther studied at the University of Erfurt and in 1505 decide to join a monastic order,becoming an Augustinian friar. In 1507 he began teaching at the university of Wittenberg and then 1512 became a doctor of theology.
Conclusion:
Luther had come to believe that Christians are saved through faith and not through their own efforts. This turned him against many of the major teachings of the Catholic Church.
October 31, 1517, is the day he challenged the Church
After awhile Martin Luther was able to convince the towns people into siding with him.The Catholic Church was having a downfall and a new type of church was emerging. Martin Luther founded a new church called the protestant church this church taught people how to be good.
