  • In this scene, Jonas gets one of his first hints that his life is about to change when the apple "had changed in midair". When Asher confirmers he saw no change, Jonas decides to do further investigating on the apple
  • Ash? Does anything seem strange to you? About the apple?
  • Yes. It jumps out of my hand onto the ground!
  • In this scene, Jonas is introduced as the new Receiver of Memory at the ceremony of 12. Once his name is called, he questions whether he is good enough to be the new Receiver of Memory. Jonas doesn't think he has enough intelligence, integrity, or courage. But still accepts his assignment despite his insecurities.
  • Jonas, you will be trained to be our next Receiver of Memory. We thank you for your childhood.
  • Do I really have the qualities to be the next Receiver of memory?

  • But don't you want to be with me, Giver?
  • These memories and emotions he gets from the Giver influences how he sees the world and how he thinks different from everyone else in the community. • Asher, you had no way of knowing this. I didn't know it myself until recently. But its a cruel game. In the past, there have-
  • I said I apologize, Jonas.
  • It was only a game....
  • In this scene, Jonas enters the annex for the first time and is greeted by a person immediately after he walks in. Him walking into the building shows the beginning of Jonas's adventure.
  • Oh, please. Call me Jonas.
  • Welcome, Receiver of Memory
