Perseus was a handsome young man. However, one day, Dicty's brother, King Polydectes fell in love with Danae, and he wanted to marry her. Perseus didn't want the marriage to happen
Should I go through with this?
The King had a plan. He had a feast, but people with no gifts couldn't come in. Perseus arrived but was thrown out. So the King gave him a quest to bring him the head of Medusa, a serpent-headed woman.
Bring me the head of Medusa, and all will be fine!
During his quest, he was visited by the goddess Athena. She gave Perseus a powerful shield , as well as directions to Medusa's lair. With that, he was off.
Perseus fought long and hard against Medusa, in the underworld. It looked like he might lose, when Medusa fired a powerful beam. However, it deflected off the shield, killing Medusa instantly. Perseus chopped her head off and was on his way home.
When Perseus finally returned, he granted the head of Medusa to King Polydectes, who stoned all his men, making the kind fisherman King Dictys. In return, Athena was granted the head, making her the most powerful goddess.
