The climax explains the narrator watching the old man for the very last time of the week, the 8th time. This time, the old man wakes up, with that one open blue tinted eye. "I was more careful in opening the door".
The falling action shows the police showing up after hearing a very loud scream, the neighbors heard and got the police. The narrator explains that the old man is 'away out of the country'. He invites the police in to talk.
In the resolution, the narrator's conscience gets to him, he starts going crazy having the guilt that he killed the old man. He finally confesses that he killed him, saying "Enough! I admit the deed!"
