The City of San Francisco, California is a Shipping port. They needed wood. So they needed to get it from Washington.
In Walla Walla Valley farmers Harvested Wheat and Hops.
Lumber and shipping towns were made. Tacoma, Olympia
And Seattle. These towns grew.
White Men and Native Americans operate together in the fields.
Ships pulled piles of logs to San Francisco.
The Pacific Ocean and Washington's rivers were filled with fish.
Fishing changed when Robert Hume built a plant that used cans and high heat to save fish.
The Pioneers and the Native Americans would sell these fish .
Salmon runs of which were on Columbia river were in decline by 1900.
In the Cascade Ms and the Puget sound lowlands Coal was discovered
Two towns, Cle Elum and Roslyn were created
Lots of cultures such as Chinese,English and Wales, and African Americans came to dig coal.
The discovery of good coal in 1886 in Kittitas County led to growing of Roslyn coal fields.
Coal Mining became very important in Washington int the 1900's
Ugh, I need to get a new job.
