Mr. Jones the drunken farmer runs Manor Farm. On the farm are 3 pigs Napolean, Squealer, and Snowball. There are 3 horses named Mollie, Boxer, and Clover. A raven named Moses. An award-winning boar named Old Major and a donkey named Benjamin. Finally, there are 3 dogs named Bluebell, Jessie and Pincher.
Old Major teaches the animals the song "Beasts of England". This song is known as the song of the Revolution. It started..."Beasts of England, beasts of Ireland, Beasts of every land and clime, Hearken to my joyful tidings Of the golden future time..." Old major eventually dies in his sleep.
The animals begin creating the 7 Amendments. The amendment that they focus most on is "all animals are equal". They come up with the saying, "four legs good two legs bad". The raven Moses tells the animals about "Sugarcandy Mountain" which is portrayed as heaven.
The animals have a genius idea to create windmills on the farm. Unfortunately, the windmills are destroyed and all the blame is on Snowball. After the windmills were destroyed the animals tried rebuilding them.
The animals are against everything that Mr. Jones does and the animals are being worked way too hard and start to collapse. The animals come to accept that the 7 Commandments of Animalism have to be rewritten.
The pigs start to display more human traits and begin to stand on their 2 hind legs. The sheep begin bleating "four legs good, two legs better".
