Storyboard Text

  • Louis Armstrong is playing the National Anthem on his trumpet
  • After the game, at a bar
  • Hey, Babe! Good game today! I heard you were the best in the nation!
  • Thanks Louis, but you can call me George
  • Well, I grew up very poor so playing the trumpet was my escape
  • You are like the founder of jazz! How did you start?
  • It's such an honor though that I got to play at your game!
  • I began to play in jazz bands in Chicago. I guess you could say I got pretty big when I started to play with King Oliver
  • Thank you! I've worked really hard to get where I am now!
  • Well, how did you start?
  • I started playing ball in my late teens. In 1914, Jack Dunn wanted me to join his minor league team, the Baltimore Orioles
  • And after that, your career took off! You got to be the best baseball player in the world!
  • You could say the same about yourself, but with the trumpet, of course
