  • Silent Trade
  • What is silent trade? Silent trade is trading good without meeting face to face. Who used silent trade? Western & North Africans. Why was silent trade used? To over come language barriers between the two groups of people. Where did silent trade take place? In African areas.

  • Step 3
  • After the middleman sets up the trading spot he tells the traders where to go. (the chosen trading location is a nearby river) The traders arrived bringing wool, silk, cotton, dates, figs, grain, leather, and salt.
  • Step 4
  • The traders spread out their goods along the river.
  • Step 5
  • The traders beat on a drum to announce that they were making an offer to trade.
  • The traders walked several miles away from the site.
  • When the Wangarans heard the drum they traveled  to the site by boat.
