Copernicus grew up in Torun, Poland where he found his passion for astronomy.
He attended four different universities where he created the heliocentric theory. The heliocentric theory is the theory that the Earth revolved around the sun. He also proved the Earth to be round.
This idea went against what the church believed which was the geocentric theory. The geocentric theory was the theory that everything revolved around the Earth.
Because the church did not agree with his theory, they banned him from teaching it to anyone.
But the world IS round!
Copernicus' theories influenced other historical events like the age of exploration because he proved that the Earth was round.
When he died, the church kept people from reading his studies and notes. But they were eventually discovered because his heliocentric theory is now taught as a fact in school.
