  • Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He was a republican from Illinois and had led the Union during the Civil War.
  • Advantage
  • Ulysses S. Grant: was an American military leader who served as the 18th president of the United States from 1869 to 1877William T Sherman: was an American soldier, businessman, educator, and author. He served as a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War
  • Disadvantage
  • The Anaconda Plan: Suggested by Winfield Scott to “slowly choke and suffocate the South”. The plan would impose a blockade to halt Southern trade with the world. Meanwhile, the army would divide and isolate sections of the South and capture its vital cities and the capital of the Confederacy in Richmond, Virginia.
  • Advantage
  • Transportation: 72% of the nation’s railroad tracks. Was easy to distribute supplies to soldiers who were in need of things such as weaponry, clothing, and food.
  • The North had a big agricultural disadvantage. Unlike the South, the North couldn't grow large amounts of rice, corn, or cotton. The South rather flourished from this advantage due to how easy it was to rely on the production of food.
  • Population: In the North, the population number ranked up to 22 million people. Due to this vast number of people, this helped raise a large army and support the war efforts.
