A battle is won. Three witches meet and debate telling Macbeth a prophecy.
King Duncan meets with the captain who saved his son, Malcolm's life. They are informed of Macbeth and Banquo's victories in the war and about the traitorous Thane or Cawdor.
Macbeth and Banquo come across the three witches who tell them that Macbeth will become the Thane of Cawdor then the King and Banquo's children will also be kings. Later a messenger arrives to inform Macbeth that he is the Thane of Cawdor.
King Duncan and Macbeth talk about his promotion to Thane of Cawdor. Duncan later states that Malcolm will be the king after he dies.
Lady Macbeth receives a letter from Macbeth explaining what the witches have prophesied. She starts soming up with a plan to kill Duncan and take the throne.
Lady Macbeth tries to convince Macbeth to kill King Duncan but he is too honorable and loyal to do so.
