In the summer of 2016, my dad and I went on a boat trip at the Chanel Islands.
At first everything was fine. We went to the beach, went with some people to inner, and started to load our things onto the boat.
Some of the other people on the boat were calling me "he", too.
It really made me upset. I hadn't asked him specifically to call me "he", but that didn't change how it made me feel. Eventually, I pulled him aside.
But my dad "corrected" them, telling them I was a girl.
He took it surprisingly well, and said he would try to use my preferred pronouns, during the trip at least.
I went to get ready for bed after that, and cried happy tears in the bathroom of the ship.
That was the first time I felt that my gender was accepted by one of my parents.
It gave me hope that someday I could be accepted for who I truly was by my family.
