Jonas does not like the idea of him and his friends playing this game. In the novel it states "Whats wrong, Jonas? It was only a game, Fiona said. Don't play it anymore Jonas pleaded. I'm the one who's training for Assistant Recreation Director, Asher pointed out angrily. Games aren't your area of expertness." Jonas reacted badly to the game that Asher and his friends are playing . In the novel the author also tells how Jonas received a memory of war from the giver. After he sees a horse get short he turns around and notices a boy beside him begging him for water , Jonas gives him water just before he passes away. This memory leaves Jonas traumatized causing him to be sensitive to the game called war.
