  • Aha Moment
  • "Once, back in the time of the memories, everything had a shape and size, the way things still do, but they also had a quality called color" (Lowry 94).   If there is no color or weather here, Jonas could try to help others see red too.  He may broaden his scope of the world so that everything could have its proper color.  Also, he may stop taking his pills to experience the past world.
  • Contrasts and Contradictions
  • "He killed it! My father killed it! Jonas said to himself, stunned at what he was realizing. He continued to stare at the screen numbly" (Lowry 150).   Due to learning that release is death, he may organize a protest against the process and attack his own father.  If Rosemary went this way too, no wonder the Giver couldn't watch the terror.
  • Contrasts and Contradictions
  • "What if they had all been instructed: You may lie? His mind reeled"(Lowry 71). Jonas, our main character, is becoming paranoid and could potentially be a compulsive liar.  He could abuse his newfound power with his mind falling to pieces in a paradox.
  • Contrasts and Contradictions
  • "Jonas. You, of all people. Precision of language, please!"(Lowry 127).   This has revealed that Jonas' family doesn't actually love him, and that this shows how Jonas has turned into a completely new person.  He has understood the new memories and has turned into a person of the past.
  • "The next morning, for the first time, Jonas did not take his pill"(Lowry 129). By not taking the pill, Jonas decides to activate the Stirrings and go against the rules to feel love.  Jonas was a quiet rule follower from the beginning, this being his first transgression.  He may even have feerlings for the Giver.
  • "The Old like to tell about their childhoods, and it's always fun to listen.' The man shook his head. 'No, no,' he said. 'I'm not being clear. It's not my past, not my childhood that I must transmit to you' "(Lowry 127).   The Giver seems aged, but refuses to act like an old peron.  OLd people here love to talk about themselves, so maybe he is young.  He could be hasty because their are a lot of memories to transmit.
