  • Symbol
  • Images
  • Figurative Language
  • The symbol I chose was the black box that represents death/fear. Line 48 to 53, "Some of you fellows want to give me a hand?" there was a hesitation before two men, Mr. Martin and his oldest son, Baxter, came forward to hold the box steady on the stool while Mr. Summers stirred up the papers inside it." This quote shows the interaction's of people because of the black box.
  • Tone and Theme
  • The imagery i chose was the very sentence of the story. "The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full-summer day" I chose this quote because it's a perfect example of an imagery.
  • The figure of speech I chose was enythmeme. Line 304-308, when Bill took his wife Tessie Hutchinson's paper and showed everyone that she had the paper with the black dot on it that is when enythmeme was shown.
  • The tone i chose was Tessie being scared because she had to be stoned. Line 322-324, "Tessie was in the center of a cleared space by now, and she held her hands out desperately as the villagers moved in or her." I chose this tone because it stood out the most in the ending out of everything else.
