Dusk on an autum day maybe 19th century. In forbidding mansion in a forlon countryside. Roderick, the master of the house asks his friend the narrator to visit him.
Servant attends the narrator's horse and the valet conducts narrator to Roderick's room. Roderick is agitated from what his soul is experiencing.
Narrator observes the house seems sickly and Usher seems pale and sick. The house has something to do with it.
Usher reveals his sister, Madeline is dying. The physician was supposed to treat Madeline. After she dies, Usher keeps her body. Narrator notice her cheeks and chest.
Madeline is placed in vault. Narrator hears strange noises in the house and reads to Usher to calm him down from being scared of the storm. Sounds begin to echo. Usher hear noises from his sister's coffin. Madeline comes out and leaps on Roderickand they both dies.
Narrator leaves the house and watches it collaspe in the fog and waters.
