Upon examination, Valdemar's left lung had been useless for along time. He was suspected of an aneurism of the aorta.
"M. Valdemar, I said,"are you asleep?"
"Yes; sleep now. Do not wake me! Let me die so!"
"M. Valdemar, can you explain to us whare are your feelings or wishes now?"
"For God's sake! Quick! Quick! Put me to sleep! Or quick! Waken me! Quick! I say to you that I am dead!"
As the scientist yelled "Dead, Dead!", his whole body shrunk, crumbled, and rotted upon the bed. There lie a nearly liquid mass of M. Valdemar.
