- Clarissedies due to car crash. Montag's character changes drastically when discoveringthat she had diedMeets awomen named Clarisse while walking home one day. Montag is asked whether he is happy with his position in society which causes him to reevaluate his life.RayBradbury’s 1953 novel Fahrenheit 451 is set in a dystopian society that burnsbooks in order to control dangerous ideas and unhappy concepts. The novelbegins with Guy Montag burning a hidden collection of books, within thisdystopian future books/knowledge is frowned upon.
- Montagcollects books for his own although it is illegal as he believes it holds valuewithin their society
- Montag'sfire chief Captain Beatty attempts to reason with him explaining why books arecensored in modern society. Beatty also admits that he has also committed manyverses of famous literature to memory despite his job enforcing the destructionof books
- Whilestaying at his home, Montag reads verses from a poem to his wife and herfriends. This sparks conflict within the household in which the ladies feeloffended, disgusted and threatened to file a complaint against him. It is laterfound out that his own wife had reported him to the authorities.
- Montagis ordered to burn all the books that he has kept secretly by his chief. In anattempt at fleeing he kills his chief and a couple other firemen. He flees downa river stream eventually making it to a colony of intellectual's who also have a fondness for books andliterature.
- Withthese people living at the colony he hopes to make it to St. Louis to speak toa book printer to try and reproduce books. However Authorities are able totrack his location and send jets overhead to bomb the colony and all the books.The novel ends with Montag searching for survivors to rebuild a newcivilization/colony.
