Its too risky to go out this late at night, we could get pulled over.
You are required to leave the country during the duration of the process
Like many people, my family is important to me. My parents are especially an important part of my life, I learn a lot through them, but because of their legal status, our lives used to not be like most families. There were certain places we couldn't go or things we couldn't do over the fear that they could be detained and we would be separated from them.
This is going to be so FUN!!
As a child, I didn't really understand or comprehend why we couldn't do certain things and my parents had a hard time explaining those things to me and my brother. It wasn't until 4th grade when my father applied for his residency that I started seeing how and why things were different for us.
These past few months have been unbearable. First he has to leave, then we move schools, and now our car is destroyed.
The immigration attorney informed us he would first have to fill out an I-485 application, pay the fees, get a sponsor, pay filing fees, submit evidence and documentation of his time in the US. In the time he would be away, he would be waiting for an appointment with an immigration officer and a written notice of the decision made by them.
Wow I never knew there were support groups here for people like me.
I want you all to know that sometimes bad things happen but it's not your fault. You just have to keep going...
My parents tried explaining to us the best they could about why my dad was going to have to leave us temporarily while his application was processed. Regardless we were still upset and didn't want him to leave. Before he left we went zoo's and parks and tried to make as many memories together as we weren't sure when we would see him again.
The months we spent without him were rough for me and my family. Me and my brother were starting at a new school and within the first week school, we got into a car wreck with my mom on the way to school. We were all miserable without him. We tried to stay in contact with him but could only talk to him on the weekends because of the weak internet signal.
After a few months of school, my teacher asked my mom of our situation after she noticed I was sensitive to certain topics and was sad some days. After learning of the situation we were going through she was very supportive and even signed me up for a support group the school had formed to help students going through tough times.
