Storyboard Text

  • Introduction
  • Battle of Marathon
  • Persians lost, who would have thought.
  • Battle of Thermopylae
  • Maybe we shouldn't fight.
  • I dunno.
  • FIGHT!!!
  • The Greeks  and Persians had a long  rivalry and due to the tension of this rivalry, they started the Persian Wars.
  • Conflict
  • Persians had 25,000 men  while  Athenians had 10,000 men.  The Persians made the big mistake  of wearing light  armor, that ruled in the Athenians favor.  The Persians ended up losing 6,000 men while the Athenians lost  less than 200 men.
  • Battle of  Salamis
  • Small boat gang
  • Greek city-states were NOT  united in their decision of whether or not to fight, so 300 Spartan soliders stopped Xerxes ( Persian leader) for three days when  a Greek   traitor  defeated them with deception.
  • Consequences  of the Persian War
  • Delian League!
  • Xerxes decided  to burn down Athens and  the Greeks fled to the island of  Salamis.
  • Greeks had small boats  that helped them navigate the narrow channel while the Persians had big boats  that were difficult to control/turn. Xerxes sat back and watched over a third of his fleet be destroyed.
  • The Greek city-states that them being unified and fighting together was better than trying to do it alone so they unified and formed the Delian  League.
