Sandra(27) and her two kids, Jess(15) and Alex(10), live in an apartment in New York. Sandra worked as a teacher but was currently laid off and Jess still works as a cashier at Chipotle. Sandra loves working with children, Jess is a musical genius and Alex is very active.
Due to the fact that Sandra got laid off her family doesn't have a lot of money to spend and Jess's part time job isn't enough. This makes life extremely difficult especially when shopping for groceries. They are often reduced to buying fast food leading to poor physical well-being. Sandra then decides to visit her local government building to see what types of aid she is qualified for.
Sandra sets up a meeting a realizes she is qualified for a government program called SNAP.
SNAP is another term for food stamps. This program provides money to low income families to buy nutritious foods.
With the help of SNAP Sandra's family was able to buy more nutritious foods. This positively affected their physical well-beings especially Alex who went back to being active.
During this time Sandra was also actively seeking a new job. After a few months of searching she found another teaching job that was close to where she lived. This job payed more than the last and soon her family was able to stop using SNAP.
