- I was a Union soldier in the Battle of Gettysburg, It was the second day of the battle men already wounded in camp having surgery and making beans in a can over the fire as we still held the town.
- The town was being bombarded by Confederate cannons up on the ridge we were moving to meet up with a new African American unit on the frontline of the battle.
- As we grew closer we could see the confederate cannons that are blocking us
- The Confederate army had more soldiers then we though and were easily surrounded with their cannons and guns. We tried to fall back but they were going to capture us and send us off to a prison camp.
- In the prisoner camps they either executed the rest of the black regiment or sent them down south while the white folks had to do manual labor and it was so hot we buried ourselves under ground to keep cool.
- later that year after the war has ended the union soldiers came down and freed the rest of us that managed to survive the diseases and labor.
