Storyboard Text

  • Zionist Movement
  • Late 1800's: Jews emigrated to Palestine, their homeland. British support is shown by the 1917 Balfour Declaration.
  • Dispute Begins
  • Jews and Arabs living in Palestine fought violently over claims to the land: Jews to the Western Wall, and Arabs to the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
  • May 1948
  • After Resolution 181 is passed, the British withdraw from the conflict and Israel declares independence. However, the Arabs are still dissatisfied.
  • Arab Invasion
  • The day after Israel declared independence, six Arab nations invaded, yet instead of Palestine gaining land, Israel gains 50% more land.
  • The Camp David Accords (1978)
  • Lebanon 1982
  • Carter meets with Sadat and Begin at Camp David. The first agreement between both sides occurs: Israel is recognized as a country and Israel is willing to trade land for peace.
  • Israel invades Lebanon to protect its Northern regions from terrorism. This action destroys peace between the nations. To this day the conflict still remains unresolved.
