  • The British Colonists began arriving in the New World in the early 1600s. They came in search of land for colonies, religios freedoms and job opportunities.
  • About 150 years later, a war broke out called the French and Indian war. This war was fought between the French and Indians vs. the British and colonists. Britain and France wanted to extend their colonies into the land west of the Appalachian Mountains. The British won the war that permanently shifted the global balance of power.
  •  Due to the French and Indian war, Britain was in a lot of debt. Because of this, they had to make extra money. To do this, they implemented the tea act. The tea act was a tax (Customs Duty) placed on all tea that the colonists had to pay. This left the Patriot colonists very mad a and wanting to boycott.
  • WE WON!
  • The Patriots kept leading protests and riots against the Loyalists. Loyalists were colonists who sided with the British and supported them. One of the major and most famous protests was the Boston Tea party. The Boston Tea Party was when colonists dressed up as Native Americans and through boxes of tea overboard. This is an example of boycotting because they were refusing to by the taxed tea so they throw it over board.
  • Shortly after the Boston Tea Paty in 1744, the British Parliment passed the Intolerable Acts. This was a set of five laws that were aginst the colonists. This was a punishment for ruining all of the tea. They were the "Intolerable" Acts because the Patriots simply couldn't tolerate such unfair laws.
  • As a result of the growing tension between the Patriots and the Loyalists, in the year of 1775, the American Revolution started. The first shot was fired in Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts. The Patriots won the American Revolution and we gained our freedm from Britain.
